Research on the Design and Implementation Strategies of Cross-cultural Teaching Activities in High School English Elective Courses

Abstract

As globalization goes deeper, high school students face international exchange more often, and cross-cultural competence has already become a basic quality they need. High school English elective courses are useful here because their course setting is more flexible and the teaching content is more varied, which gives these classes a better space for cross-cultural teaching. Starting from the core theories and practical experience in Cultivating Cross Cultural Communication Awareness and Ability in High School English Elective Courses, this paper discusses how cross-cultural teaching activities in elective courses can be designed and then carried out in practice. The discussion begins with senior high school education itself: why cross-cultural communication matters there, what the present situation of cross-cultural teaching looks like, and why design principles together with implementation strategies are now necessary. After that, several design principles are put forward, mainly authenticity, relevance, and hierarchy. The paper then moves to the practical side and explains specific strategies from three directions, activity content design, teaching method innovation, and evaluation system construction. What this study tries to offer is practical reference for English teachers, especially when they need to organize effective cross-cultural teaching activities in real classroom. By doing this, it hopes students can strengthen their cross-cultural communication awareness and ability, and it also hopes to support the training of high-quality talents with international perspectives.
