A Study on Traditional Chinese Culture in PEP Grade 4 English Textbook (Volume 1)
Abstract
Against the educational background where the Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education English (2022 Edition) emphasizes the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness, English textbooks, as the core carrier of English classroom teaching, undertake the important mission of inheriting excellent traditional Chinese culture and fostering students’ cultural confidence. This paper takes the latest 2024 revised version of the PEP Primary English textbook for Grade Four Volume One as the research object, adopts the method of textual analysis, and systematically sorts out the traditional Chinese cultural elements contained in the textbook from four dimensions: family ethics, interpersonal communication, community culture, and natural seasons. It further analyzes their presentation modes, infiltration characteristics and educational values, and puts forward corresponding teaching implementation suggestions, so as to provide references for integrating traditional culture education into primary English classrooms.
